Figma acquires AI media startup Weavy, rebrands it Figma Weave

It folds a node-based generative engine into the canvas, turning static mockups into editable image and video pipelines.

• Figma acquired AI-powered media generation startup Weavy and relaunched it as Figma Weave, embedding generative image, video, animation and VFX tools directly into the design canvas.
• Weavy's node-based workflow combines multiple third-party AI models, including Sora and Flux, with professional editing tools, letting designers chain generation and editing steps visually.
• Figma first showed 30+ custom-built Weave tools at Config 2026, then opened Community publishing on September 16 so any creator can package and share their own generative tools.
• A new "Figma node" connects existing Figma frames directly into Weave workflows, keeping generated on-brand content, translations, and video versions synced whenever the source design updates.
• Using Weave tools inside Figma Design currently requires a Professional, Organization or Enterprise plan and remains in open beta without consuming AI credits, ahead of metered pricing at general availability.
• By absorbing a multi-model generative media layer rather than building one from scratch, Figma is racing to keep design work inside its canvas as AI-native creation tools proliferate elsewhere.
