Re:Build, Slate Auto's parent, raises $2.1B for US manufacturing
October 27, 2026
Raised
$2.1B
Investors are betting platform manufacturers, not single factories, can rebuild US industrial capacity fast enough to counter China.
- Re:Build, the Massachusetts-based manufacturing accelerator that spun out EV startup Slate Auto in 2023, raised $2.1 billion led by General Catalyst and JPMorganChase's Strategic Investment Group.
- Founded in 2020 by former Amazon commercial CEO Jeff Wilke, Re:Build designs and manufactures hard tech products and incubates industrial startups across aerospace, defense, electrification, medical, and robotics.
- Re:Build's ecosystem already employs more than 2,100 people and operates over 2.4 million square feet of advanced manufacturing capacity.
- The raise builds on General Catalyst's first investment in Re:Build in 2024, including a recent $120 million commitment, bringing the founding team's total capital raised to more than $4 billion.
- The deal lands amid heavy investor interest in physical industries: robotics and hardware startup Eclipse raised $1.3 billion this year, and manufacturer Hadrian paired a $1.37 billion equity round with a $360 million credit facility.
- The $2.1B round signals that investors increasingly favor backing multi-business manufacturing platforms over single-factory bets to rebuild US industrial capacity and reduce dependence on China.
