Honor launches Robot Phone in China with 200MP titanium gimbal camera

The camera arm physically nods, tilts and tracks motion using embodied AI, a hardware bet to reignite a cooling premium phone market.

• Honor unveiled the Robot Phone in China on August 12, its flagship built around a motorized gimbal camera that nods, tilts and tracks motion via a hand gesture.
• Honor, the smartphone maker spun off from Huawei in 2020, is leaning on interactive hardware to differentiate itself as global premium phone sales cool.
• The gimbal uses an aviation-grade titanium chassis that Honor says cuts volume by 65% versus mainstream gimbal cameras while spinning up to 360 degrees per second.
• Camera hardware includes a 200MP main sensor (1/1.28-inch, f/1.6), a 200MP periscope telephoto, and a 50MP ultrawide, all mounted on the 3-axis gimbal arm.
• It's the first product from Honor's strategic partnership with cinema camera maker ARRI, bringing LogC3 encoding, Wide Gamut 3 color and ARRI Looks to a phone.
• Pre-orders across channels topped 200,000 units ahead of the launch, an early signal of demand for the unconventional design.
• Honor first teased the Robot Phone at MWC 2026, with CEO Li Jian promising a Q3 2026 release before the device landed on schedule in August.
