Blacksmith raises $45M Series B, valuation surges to $550M

$45M

Series B

AI coding agents now generate code faster than humans can review it, turning CI pipelines into the new bottleneck.

  • Blacksmith closed a $45M Series B led by Peak XV Partners at a $550M valuation, up from $60M less than a year earlier, with existing investors GV and Y Combinator also participating.
  • Founded in 2024 by Aayush Shah, Aditya Jayaprakash and Aditya Maru, Blacksmith builds dedicated CI infrastructure for GitHub Actions using bare-metal hardware and Firecracker microVMs that boot in under three seconds.
  • Its Codesmith agent diagnoses failed CI checks and auto-fixes them to keep pull requests green, with a forthcoming Codesmith QA product designed to autonomously test code changes before merge.
  • Blacksmith now serves more than 5,000 customers, including Mercury, Supabase and Clerk, up from roughly 700 a year earlier, and has grown from 10 employees at $10M ARR to about 30 employees with revenue in the tens of millions.
  • GitHub commits are on pace to hit 14 billion this year, up from roughly 1 billion in 2025, and AI-generated pull requests grew 325% in six months, overwhelming CI systems built for human-speed workflows.
  • The round reflects a broader shift of AI investment dollars from generation tools toward the validation layer, as reviewing and testing machine-written code becomes the harder problem than writing it.
