Epic debuts Ergo AI platform and Cosmos-powered predictive care tools

Its scale advantage rests on a research database of 320 million patients that rivals can't easily replicate.

• Epic unveiled Ergo, a new "healthcare intelligence" platform, alongside an AI agent-building tool called Agent Factory and Cosmos-powered predictive features at its 2026 Users Group Meeting in Verona, Wisconsin.
• Epic is the dominant U.S. electronic health record vendor; about 8,400 hospital administrators and staff attended UGM in person, with roughly 29,000 more watching the executive address virtually.
• Agent Factory lets health systems deploy any of 120 out-of-box AI agents, customize them with their own policies, or build new no-code agents; broader availability is planned for 2027.
• Cosmos, Epic's clinical research database underpinning Ergo's predictions, now holds de-identified data from 320 million patients across 23 billion encounters.
• Ergo Visit, which pairs Epic's clinician AI "Art" with its patient-facing AI "Emmie" to prep and summarize outpatient visits, is now live at Ochsner Health and piloted with five additional physicians.
• As part of a cybersecurity update, Epic disclosed it is using one of Anthropic's most restricted AI models to power some of its new generative features.
• By fusing agent-building tools with an unmatched, patient-scale dataset, Epic is positioning its EHR as the default AI layer for hospitals, aiming to preempt standalone health AI startups and public chatbots from filling that role.
