Grab agrees to acquire 60% of Singapore's Atome Financial for $1.49B

September 15, 2026

The deal lets Grab skip a decade of costly credit-model training by buying an already-profitable lender outright.

  • Grab Holdings signed definitive agreements to acquire a controlling 60% equity stake in Atome Financial, the BNPL platform owned by Advance Intelligence Group, for $1.49 billion in cash.
  • Atome Financial runs buy-now-pay-later loans, consumer cash loans, BNPL cards and digital lending across Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand, serving 25 million cumulative transacted users.
  • Grab will buy the remaining 40% of Atome roughly two years after closing under a performance-linked earnout tied to EBITDA and revenue, which could ultimately value Atome between $2 billion and $4.5 billion.
  • Atome's revenue jumped 80% to $470 million in 2025, its second straight profitable year, on a gross loan portfolio of about $1 billion with stable-to-improving delinquency rates.
  • Grab now targets $500 million in Financial Services segment Adjusted EBITDA and a $6 billion gross loan portfolio by 2028, up from a prior target of just over $3 billion by end-2026.
  • Grab COO Alex Hungate noted only 1% of Grab's 138 million annual transacting users have ever taken a loan on its platform, underscoring the cross-sell potential Atome's lending expertise unlocks.
  • It's Grab's largest fintech bet to date, marking a deliberate pivot from slowing ride-hailing and delivery growth toward higher-margin consumer lending as its core super-app business matures.
