Ooredoo leads $800M investment in Zankore, a 1GW AI platform in Indonesia
August 6, 2026
The telecom giant is betting that owning AI compute, not just selling connectivity, is where its next growth wave comes from.
- Ooredoo Group is investing about $800 million as founding shareholder and lead investor in Zankore, a new AI compute venture built with Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Nvidia and Nokia.
- Zankore is a dedicated AI compute and neocloud platform launched in Indonesia, with Ooredoo providing capital, Indosat contributing local infrastructure and execution, Nvidia supplying GPUs and software, and Nokia handling AI-native networking.
- Ooredoo holds a 49% stake in Zankore and will commit the $800 million over five years to fund the platform's launch and initial development.
- Zankore targets 1 gigawatt of Nvidia DSX AI Factory capacity over three years, starting with roughly 200 megawatts using Nvidia GB300 NVL72 systems in the first half of 2027.
- The venture is forecast to generate around $13 billion in revenue and $9 billion in cumulative EBITDA over five years, with roughly $600 million in EBITDA flowing to Ooredoo Group.
- Ooredoo's CEO said the company has spent roughly three years migrating from a traditional telco to a digital infrastructure provider, with Zankore as the latest step in that shift.
- Telecom operators worldwide are racing to reposition idle network capital as AI infrastructure providers, and Zankore signals Gulf telcos using Southeast Asian demand growth to diversify away from saturated home-market connectivity revenue.
