Kiteworks acquires Israeli startup Bonfy.AI for tens of millions
September 8, 2026
The deal underscores how enterprises still can't stop sensitive data from leaking the moment AI agents start acting on it.
- Kiteworks acquired Israeli AI data security startup Bonfy.AI for an undisclosed sum estimated at tens of millions of dollars, folding its technology into Kiteworks' Data Control Plane.
- Bonfy.AI was founded in early 2024 by cybersecurity entrepreneurs Gidi Cohen and Danny Kibel and emerged from stealth in June 2025 with $9.5 million in seed funding led by TLV Partners.
- Its platform classifies sensitive data at the moment it moves and applies policy before a transfer completes, weighing sender, recipient, channel and business purpose across email, file sharing, SaaS apps and AI agents.
- The purchase is Kiteworks' eighth acquisition in under five years as it assembles a broader data security and compliance platform through combined in-house R&D and M&A.
- Bonfy went from stealth launch to acquisition in roughly 15 months, an unusually fast exit that reflects how quickly buyers are moving to secure AI-native data governance tooling.
- As AI agents gain the ability to read, generate and transmit corporate data autonomously, security tools built to inventory data at rest are proving insufficient to govern what happens the instant that data moves.
