Convex raises $57M Series B led by Insight Partners for AI-era backends
August 4, 2026
Raised
$57M
The pitch: AI coding agents write buggy glue code on traditional databases, and Convex's TypeScript-native platform is built to prevent that by design.
- Convex closed a $57 million Series B led by Insight Partners, with Etna Labs, a16z, Spark Capital and angel investor Justin Kan also participating.
- Founded in 2021 by former Dropbox infrastructure engineers Jamie Turner (CEO) and James Cowling (CTO), Convex bundles database, functions, sync, search and file storage into one TypeScript-native backend.
- In Convex's own testing, 90% of AI-built apps on a traditional database silently corrupted data, versus a zero percent failure rate for apps built on Convex.
- The round brings Convex's total funding to $110.5 million, following a $26 million Series A in 2022, as the platform now powers nearly 2 million applications built by roughly 500,000 developers.
- Over the past year Convex launched Enterprise plans now used by dozens of companies and turned on European hosting for teams needing EU data residency.
- Customers building on Convex now include OpenAI, Tripadvisor, Solana, Zapier and Reducto, giving it a distribution edge in a category that also includes Supabase and Firebase.
- As AI agents take over more implementation choices, developers are outsourcing infrastructure decisions entirely, and Convex is betting that reliability, not raw speed, becomes the deciding factor for which backend wins that trust.
