Moonshot AI reportedly files for $3B Hong Kong IPO at $50B valuation
September 3, 2026
Valuation
$50B
The filing forced the AI lab to unwind its offshore ownership structure, tying its public listing directly to Beijing's oversight.
- Moonshot AI confidentially filed an A1 application with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, aiming to raise about $3 billion while valued at $50 billion in an ongoing pre-IPO funding round, sources told Reuters.
- Founded in 2023 by Yang Zhilin, Beijing-based Moonshot AI is the developer of the Kimi chatbot and the open-weight Kimi K3 model, which has more than 2.8 trillion parameters.
- To qualify for the listing, Moonshot had to unwind its offshore VIE structure and convert to an onshore Chinese joint-stock company, sources said.
- Moonshot's annual recurring revenue tripled from $100 million in March 2026 to $300 million by June, fueled by a sixfold jump in daily sales after Kimi K3's July launch.
- The $50 billion valuation trails rivals DeepSeek (roughly $74 billion) and Z.AI ($66 billion), underscoring how competitive China's AI valuation landscape has become.
- Moonshot is reportedly in talks with Microsoft, Amazon and Google on revenue-sharing deals to host Kimi K3, which could become the first such pact between a Chinese AI firm and a major US cloud provider.
- A successful listing would make Moonshot one of the largest Chinese AI firms to go public, testing investor appetite for open-weight models amid intensifying US-China AI competition.
