Firebird opens CIS region's largest AI factory in Armenia with Nvidia, Dell

Washington issued the export license behind the project only nine months before ground was broken, tying compute buildout to geopolitics.

• Firebird officially launched what Nvidia calls the CIS region's largest AI factory in Hrazdan, Armenia, on August 8, 2026, built on Nvidia's DSX platform with Dell PowerEdge servers.
• Firebird is a US-based AI cloud infrastructure company co-founded by Razmig Hovaghimian and Alexander Yesayan, and its flagship site opened with 6,144 Nvidia B200 GPUs across 15 megawatts.
• Firebird plans to deploy more than 70,000 Nvidia Rubin and Blackwell GPUs and 300 megawatts of capacity in Armenia by the end of 2027, part of a roughly 2-gigawatt roadmap spanning Armenia, Kazakhstan and other markets.
• The project's first phase carries a $500 million investment, with an already-approved third expansion targeting more than 400 megawatts, ranking it among Europe's largest AI infrastructures.
• Nvidia's DSX system codesigns compute, networking, power and cooling to run up to 40% more GPUs on the same footprint, reflecting that power efficiency, not chip supply, is now the scaling bottleneck.
• The buildout depended on a US export license Firebird secured in November 2025, and a $4 billion, roughly 50,000-GPU Phase 2 expansion was announced jointly with the US government during Vice President JD Vance's February visit to Yerevan.
• Nvidia intends to make a direct investment in Firebird following an earlier investment from CoreWeave, and up to 90% of the facility's capacity will serve global enterprise customers including early user Perplexity.
• The project shows AI infrastructure buildouts increasingly landing in geopolitically strategic frontier markets rather than traditional data-center hubs, turning compute capacity into a tool of diplomacy as much as commerce.
