Nvidia reportedly in talks to invest in Perplexity at $30B+ valuation

August 23, 2026

Valuation

$30B

A stake would let the chipmaker profit twice: once selling GPUs to AI firms, again as an equity holder in them.

  • Nvidia is in talks to invest in Perplexity as part of an equity funding round that would value the AI search startup at more than $30 billion, The Information reported.
  • Perplexity is an AI search and answer-engine startup led by CEO Aravind Srinivas, already backed by Jeff Bezos and Japan's SoftBank Group.
  • The prospective valuation would be more than 50% above the roughly $20 billion mark Perplexity reportedly locked in about a year earlier.
  • Perplexity's annualized revenue has more than tripled this year, climbing from under $250 million to over $750 million.
  • Much of that growth is credited to Perplexity Computer, a cloud-based AI agent that automates computer-based tasks for professional users.
  • Perplexity also signed a $750 million Azure cloud commitment with Microsoft earlier this year, hinting at the compute spend behind its expansion.
  • CEO Aravind Srinivas has said Perplexity is targeting a 2028 IPO regardless of how markets receive Anthropic's and OpenAI's public debuts.
  • A direct Nvidia stake would tie the chipmaker's returns to a downstream AI application, extending its pattern of investing in the same companies that buy its GPUs.
