Highlight AI Raises $40M Series A Led by Khosla Ventures

Highlight AI announced a $40 million Series A funding round led by Khosla Ventures, with participation from 359 Capital, General Catalyst, Valor Equity, Common Metal, Makers Fund, Collaborative Fund, Arcadia, and SV Angel. The funding round coincided with the appointment of Sergei Sorokin, former VP of Product at Discord, as the company's new CEO. Sorokin brings over 15 years of experience building consumer products at scale, including eight years at Discord where he led product development and helped grow the platform from 5 million to nearly 300 million monthly active users. After leaving Discord, he spent two years building and advising AI startups including Weights, Aura, and OffCall, giving him direct insight into the fragmentation challenges that Highlight aims to solve.

Highlight positions itself as a shared intelligence layer designed to eliminate what the company calls the coordination tax—the time, effort, and cognitive load required to keep teams aligned, which research suggests consumes up to 24 hours per employee each week. The platform operates as a layer above existing tools like Slack, Zoom, Linear, and Claude Code, capturing high-fidelity context across employees and applications. Rather than requiring manual prompting, Highlight automatically drafts follow-ups, syncs documentation, and orchestrates tasks across platforms. The company addresses a critical gap in AI adoption: while nearly 80 percent of companies use generative AI, a similar proportion report little measurable impact on productivity, revealing a coordination bottleneck between human and machine workflows.

Highlight's infrastructure captures, models, and retrieves team context in real time through user-controlled capture and a unified team memory engine. The platform synthesizes information across tools—for example, automatically recording design reviews in Figma, capturing decisions and action items from Slack discussions, and preparing contextualized follow-ups and task drafts in Linear. This approach transforms everyday work into persistent organizational memory that survives role changes and team growth. With the new funding, Highlight plans to double its headcount, focusing on hiring engineers, operators, and marketers in San Francisco to accelerate product development and go-to-market efforts. The company is recruiting product builders with experience from Discord, Medal.tv, and Meta to build intuitive, collaborative products designed for agent-driven workflows.
