Infillion acquires Foursquare, folding location data into ad platform
September 18, 2026
The deal lets advertisers finally verify whether campaigns drove people into physical stores, not just clicks online.
- Infillion, an advertising technology company, announced on September 18, 2026 that it is acquiring Foursquare, the location intelligence platform, on undisclosed financial terms.
- Foursquare's database spans more than 100 million points of interest across 200 countries, 16 billion human-verified check-ins, and aggregated coverage of 250 million U.S. devices, powering location measurement for hundreds of brands and every major agency holding company.
- Foursquare will keep operating as an independent brand inside Infillion, continuing to sell its data even to customers on competing ad platforms, while its visit data combines with Infillion's Catalina purchase-intelligence dataset.
- The acquisition is expected to lift Infillion's revenue and headcount by roughly 20-25%, with most of Foursquare's roughly 150 employees joining Infillion's 650-person team; CEO Gary Little will not make the move.
- Founded in 2009 as a check-in app before spinning off Swarm in 2014, Foursquare had raised about $412 million and was valued at just $450 million in a 2019 financing round, according to PitchBook data cited by Axios.
- Pairing Foursquare's foot-traffic data with Catalina's purchase records lets Infillion claim it can prove advertising drives real-world visits and sales at national scale, a measurement gap walled gardens like Google and Meta can't fill outside their own ecosystems.
