Neutral-atom quantum startup Oratomic has raised a $300M Series A round to build a fault-tolerant quantum computer that could work with about 20,000 qubits.

Oratomic, a neutral-atom quantum computing startup, has raised $300 million in a Series A funding round to accelerate development of fault-tolerant, utility-scale quantum computers based on reconfigurable neutral-atom arrays trapped in focused laser beams. The financing was co-led by ARCH Venture Partners, Spark Capital and Khosla Ventures, with participation from Bezos Expeditions, Index Ventures, General Catalyst, Lowercarbon Capital, Bain Capital, Formation, Nebular, David and Scott Aaronson, Les Kohn, Baiju Bhatt, Infleqtion, Genius Ventures, 7i Capital and Global Frontier Investments. The capital will be used to scale Oratomic’s engineering infrastructure, expand quantum hardware fabrication, and grow teams across advanced optics, atomic physics, algorithmic research and classical control hardware.

The company’s approach is built around a simpler quantum error-correction scheme using reconfigurable atomic arrays, supported by research with Caltech scientists indicating that a practical, fault-tolerant quantum computer may be achievable with roughly 10,000 to 20,000 neutral-atom qubits rather than the millions often cited in earlier estimates. Oratomic has stated that it is focused directly on fault-tolerant systems with no intermediate commercial products, positioning the startup as a long-term deep-tech bet in the quantum hardware space. The size of the round and the caliber of the investor syndicate underscore growing confidence that neutral-atom architectures could enable commercially useful quantum computing before the end of the decade, with significant implications for fields ranging from materials science to cryptography.
