Beijing AI lab Moonshot AI raised about $2 billion in a funding round valuing it at over $20 billion, led by Meituan’s venture arm.

Moonshot AI, the Beijing-based developer of the Kimi family of large language models, has raised about $2 billion in a new funding round at a valuation of more than $20 billion. The round was led by Long-Z Investments, Meituan’s venture arm, with participation from Tsinghua Capital, China Mobile, and CPE Yuanfeng.

The raise extends a rapid climb in Moonshot’s valuation, which was reported at $4.3 billion at the end of 2025 and had already risen sharply earlier in 2026. One report said the company has raised $3.9 billion over the past six months, underscoring how aggressively capital has flowed into Chinese AI model developers competing in the global race for large language model adoption.

Moonshot’s appeal appears tied to both product traction and market timing. TechCrunch reported that the company’s annual recurring revenue passed $200 million in April, supported by paid subscriptions and API usage, while the company’s open-weight Kimi models have drawn attention as demand for alternative AI systems has increased. The size of the round and the participation of major strategic backers signal continued investor confidence in China’s frontier AI startups.
