Ornn raises $33M seed to build GPU compute commodity marketplace

Ornn, an AI infrastructure startup building financial markets for GPU compute, has raised $33 million in a seed funding round to develop a marketplace where GPU capacity can be priced and traded like a commodity. Andreessen Horowitz’s crypto-focused fund, a16z crypto, led the round, with Galaxy Ventures named as a co-lead in several reports, alongside participation from Nordstar and SV Angel and continued backing from existing investors Vine Ventures, Crucible Capital, Link Ventures, and Box Group. The company, founded by MIT graduates Kush Bavaria and Wayne Nelms, is rolling out an index-driven marketplace anchored by the Ornn Compute Price Index (OCPI), which tracks live spot prices for leading GPU models to provide a settlement-grade benchmark for compute capacity.

The fresh capital will fund the build-out of Ornn’s GPU compute exchange and associated derivatives infrastructure, turning rights to use specific GPU capacity over time into tradable financial instruments that can be priced, financed, and hedged. Ornn is also launching Ornn Compute, a physical capacity layer that aggregates dedicated GPU resources across multiple cloud and "neocloud" providers into a single platform with unified onboarding and a secondary market for transfers and on-demand sublets, aiming to make idle capacity liquid and accessible. The company’s indices are already distributed via institutional channels such as Bloomberg Terminal, and Ornn has partnered with Intercontinental Exchange to support planned cash-settled GPU compute futures contracts referenced to its OCPI index, subject to regulatory approval. By standardizing pricing and enabling futures-style hedging tools for AI compute, Ornn positions itself as a core financial and market data layer for what investors see as a rapidly emerging asset class in the AI economy.
