Silicon Motion Q1 Revenue Surges 105% to Record $342.1M
Silicon Motion reported first-quarter 2026 revenue of $342.1 million, doubling year-over-year with record profitability driven by explosive growth in embedded storage controllers and automotive solutions.
Silicon Motion delivered exceptional first-quarter results with net sales reaching $342.1 million, representing a 105% year-over-year increase and 23% sequential growth from the prior quarter. The company reported GAAP net income of $66.8 million, or $1.97 per diluted ADS, with non-GAAP earnings of $53.8 million, or $1.58 per diluted ADS. Gross margin held steady at 47.1% on a GAAP basis while operating margin expanded to 15.3%, demonstrating improved operational efficiency. The earnings beat analyst expectations by $42.52 million on revenue and $0.28 on non-GAAP EPS, with adjusted earnings per ADS climbing 163% year-over-year.
Growth was concentrated in two key product categories. Embedded eMMC and UFS controller sales surged 140% to 145% year-over-year, driven by market share gains in smartphones and IoT despite weakening smartphone demand from elevated memory costs. More dramatically, Ferri and boot drive solutions exploded 755% to 760% year-over-year as automotive Ferri products ramped and enterprise boot drive solutions scaled with AI infrastructure customers. SSD controller revenue declined slightly sequentially but grew 40% to 45% year-over-year as new PCIe 5 controllers with higher average selling prices began contributing. Management guided second-quarter revenue of $393 million to $411 million, implying 15% to 20% sequential growth and 98% to 107% year-over-year expansion, with gross margins expected to improve to 48.5% to 49.5%.
The results underscore Silicon Motion's strategic positioning across high-growth markets. The company is capitalizing on AI infrastructure buildout through enterprise storage solutions while expanding automotive exposure through Ferri products and next-generation embedded controllers. Management highlighted multiple new product launches expected throughout 2026, including a 4-channel PCIe 5 edge SSD controller, new embedded controllers for mobile and automotive, and emerging enterprise-class MonTitan controllers. The strong backlog and guidance suggest the company is well-positioned to sustain momentum as customers deploy new AI and edge computing infrastructure.
