Agon exits stealth with $30M to build synthetic battlefields for AI

Training data for autonomous weapons is scarce and classified, so simulated combat becomes the shortcut nations need.

• Agon emerged from stealth with $30M in combined pre-seed and seed funding to build a synthetic training environment for autonomous weapons, led by Lakestar and XYZ Venture Capital.
• The London- and Berlin-based startup was founded by ex-Anduril and Applied Intuition executive Tristam Constant and Cambridge Aerospace founder Junaid Hussain, with Unity co-founder David Helgason as chairman.
• The $30M splits into a $7M pre-seed and a $23M seed extension, with backers including 201 Ventures, D3, Lux Capital and Northzone, while Lakestar's Klaus Hommels joins the board.
• Agon's platform trains autonomous weapon systems against adaptive virtual adversaries built from live conflict intelligence, addressing a shortage of classified real-world battlefield data.
• As autonomous weapons proliferate faster than real-world testing can validate them, synthetic battlefields could let Europe iterate its defense AI without relying on live combat data from conflicts like Ukraine.
• Agon says it has begun work with design partners across European defense and autonomy firms and plans to expand engineering teams across the UK and Germany.
