xAI puts Grok 4.5 into private beta at SpaceX and Tesla
xAI has moved Grok 4.5 into private beta for SpaceX and Tesla employees, with no public release date yet. The model is built on xAI’s 1.5T-parameter V9 foundation and targets coding and technical work.
xAI has placed Grok 4.5 into private beta for SpaceX and Tesla, giving employees at those companies early access before any wider rollout. Elon Musk said the model is based on xAI’s 1.5-trillion-parameter V9 foundation and includes supplemental training from Cursor data, with internal evaluations suggesting performance close to or possibly better than Anthropic’s Claude Opus.
The move positions Grok 4.5 as an internal product first, rather than a public release. Reports say the beta is limited to SpaceX and Tesla teams, and xAI has not announced a public launch date or published independent benchmark results, leaving the model’s performance claims unverified outside the company.
The target market appears to be engineering-heavy, technical workflows inside Musk-controlled companies, including coding, software tooling, and complex operational tasks. xAI’s use of Cursor training data and its emphasis on reinforcement learning and the Grok Build system suggest the model is being tuned for developer productivity and applied problem-solving rather than broad consumer distribution at this stage.
