Aqua Theon, a Japanese company specializing in marine resource innovation, closed a Pre-Series A funding round totaling $13.1 million, equivalent to approximately ¥2 billion. The latest investment tranche of around ¥800 million came from Sparx Asset Management through its Mirai Creation Fund III, Beyond Next Ventures, and Shizuoka Shimbun, building on prior contributions to reach the full amount. This funding targets scaling production and market reach for OoMee, a functional beverage made from seaweed, alongside advancements in the company's Seabiotics technology platform for functional foods and ingredients.

The investment reflects growing investor interest in sustainable, ocean-based products amid rising demand for natural health alternatives. Aqua Theon operates across consumer goods, materials, chemicals, natural resources, healthcare, and healthtech sectors, with a footprint in Japan and the United States. This capital positions the company to accelerate commercialization of its proprietary seaweed-derived solutions, tapping into global trends for innovative, nutrient-rich beverages and biotech applications.

As functional beverages gain traction in health-conscious markets, Aqua Theon's approach leverages abundant marine resources to create high-value products. The involvement of strategic investors like media firm Shizuoka Shimbun and venture funds signals confidence in the scalability of seaweed biotechnology, potentially influencing broader adoption in the consumer and healthtech industries.
