Google Expands Veo 3.1 Lite Access on Vertex AI for Cost-Effective Video Generation

March 31, 2026

Google launched Veo 3.1 Lite, its most affordable AI video generation model, on Vertex AI and Gemini API, enabling developers to create 720p videos for $0.05 per clip—less than half the cost of Veo 3.1 Fast.

Google introduced Veo 3.1 Lite, a stripped-down version of its Veo 3.1 video generation model designed to democratize AI video creation for developers and businesses. The model generates 720p video clips at $0.05 per clip and 1080p at $0.08 per clip, making it viable for high-volume content production that would otherwise be prohibitively expensive. Veo 3.1 Lite supports both text-to-video and image-to-video generation with flexible framing options in landscape (16:9) and portrait (9:16) formats, with clip lengths of four, six, or eight seconds. The model maintains the same generation speed as Veo 3.1 Fast while costing less than 50% of that tier, positioning it as the entry point in Google's three-tier Veo 3.1 family alongside the standard and Fast variants.

The primary limitation of Veo 3.1 Lite is the absence of native audio generation, distinguishing it from higher-tier models that include synchronized sound effects, ambient audio, and dialogue. This trade-off enables the aggressive pricing while maintaining practical utility for developers building video applications, rapid prototyping workflows, and A/B creative testing. Veo 3.1 Lite is available through Google AI Studio for paying users and Google's Vertex AI platform, with third-party integrations like MindStudio enabling automated video workflows without requiring direct Google Cloud infrastructure management. The launch reflects Google's strategy to compete in the AI video market by offering tiered options across different production needs and budgets, from cost-conscious bulk generation to premium 4K production capabilities through higher-tier models.
