Ex-Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal's Parallel deepens Google Cloud pact, hits $2B

July 16, 2026

Google is opening its walled-garden agent platform to an outside search layer, betting flexibility keeps developers from switching clouds.

  • Parallel Web Systems is now natively integrated into Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, callable via the Gemini API, selectable in Agent Studio, and available through Google Cloud Marketplace.
  • Founded by former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal roughly two and a half years ago, Parallel builds a search API purpose-built for AI agents, with clients including legal AI startup Harvey.
  • Parallel reached a $2 billion valuation in April after raising a $100 million Series B led by Sequoia Capital, bringing its total funding to $230 million.
  • More than 100,000 developers already use Parallel's infrastructure, which returns structured, LLM-optimized web results rather than human-facing search pages.
  • The integration, called Grounding with Parallel Web Search, is billed through customers' existing Google Cloud invoices and is currently offered as a preview feature.
  • By welcoming an independent search rival into its own agent platform, Google is betting that giving enterprises retrieval-layer choice keeps them from taking entire agent workloads to a competing cloud.
