Snap Unveils $2,195 SPECS, Its First Consumer AR Glasses

Snap has introduced SPECS, its first augmented reality glasses built for mainstream consumers rather than developers, marking a major expansion beyond its earlier Spectacles line. Announced at Augmented World Expo 2026, the standalone device is priced at $2,195, with preorders open now via a $200 refundable deposit and initial availability slated for this fall in the US, UK, and France. The glasses use dual Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, one dedicated to computer vision and one to running Snap’s Lens-based apps, delivering full on-device spatial computing without a phone, puck, or tether. SPECS feature a see-through AR display with a 51-degree field of view, which Snap compares to viewing a roughly 115-inch virtual screen from ten feet away, and support 16 million colors via internally developed display technology.

SPECS are built in two frame sizes using a Swiss TR90 polymer, weighing about 132 to 136 grams depending on the model, and are designed for several hours of active use rather than all-day wear. Battery life is rated at up to four hours of mixed use, with an included charging case providing four additional full charges for around 20 hours of total usage. The device integrates electrochromic lenses that transition from clear to tinted in roughly 10 seconds, prescription-ready removable inserts sold via partners, and support for hand tracking, head tracking, and environment mapping for spatial AR experiences. Snap is positioning SPECS for productivity, media consumption, and interactive AR applications such as virtual displays, navigation, object measurement, and AI-enhanced tools, targeting early adopters and power users who want a more capable AR computer than camera-centric smart glasses but in a lighter format than full headsets.
