Siemens agrees to acquire AI chip-design startup Precision Innovations
July 20, 2026
The deal folds an OpenROAD-based planning tool into Siemens' EDA stack to catch chip flaws before costly implementation begins.
- Siemens signed an agreement to acquire Precision Innovations Inc., a privately held EDA software company, adding AI-powered chip planning tools to its portfolio.
- Precision Innovations builds software on the open-source OpenROAD framework that lets chip teams test architectural tradeoffs early, before deeper design work locks in flaws.
- The startup will join Siemens' Digital Design Creation line, aiming to give customers one continuous flow from early architecture decisions through implementation and full silicon lifecycle management.
- Siemens' EDA unit is separately growing its Saskatoon R&D hub by a third to 400 staff, a site rooted in its 2017 purchase of chip software startup Solido Design Automation.
- As SoC designs grow more complex, catching power, performance and area problems during early planning rather than late in the flow can save semiconductor teams months of costly rework.
