Voltify, an Israeli startup founded by Dafna Langer and Alon Kessel, raised $30 million in a seed funding round co-led by venture capital firm Aleph and global mining company Fortescue. Additional participants included funds such as Menomadin, Jimpact, and The Dock, along with angel investors. The capital will accelerate development of Voltify's distributed energy platform, which integrates battery-powered locomotives, in-motion fast-charging technology, and renewable-powered microgrids along rail routes. This approach enables diesel train retrofits to electric operations without the extensive infrastructure costs of traditional overhead wire systems, targeting an $11 billion global diesel rail market.
The platform aims to cut rail energy costs by over 20% and significantly reduce emissions, with long-term goals including 50 million tons of annual CO2 reductions by 2035. Voltify has secured a paid pilot with one of the world's largest Class I rail operators, with deployment imminent, and maintains a pipeline with U.S. regional operators. This funding underscores investor confidence in scalable electrification solutions for freight rail, a sector strained by environmental pressures and high diesel dependency, positioning Voltify to disrupt heavy transport decarbonization amid converging clean energy and logistics demands.
As a U.S.-Israeli company, Voltify addresses barriers to rail electrification by avoiding massive capital expenditures, enabling operators to transition without operational overhauls.
