Xiaomi launches SkyNomad SUV series, debuting new Kunlun EV platform

The seven-seat flagship undercuts Li Auto and Aito rivals on price, using a gasoline range extender instead of a bigger battery.

• Xiaomi EV launched the SkyNomad series in Beijing on July 30, 2026, opening pre-orders for the seven-seat N90 Max (CN¥299,900/$44,985) and five-seat N70 Max (CN¥259,900/$38,985) with a CN¥1,000 deposit.
• SkyNomad is Xiaomi's third vehicle line after the SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV, pivoting from driving-dynamics-focused models to a large, reconfigurable family SUV as EV revenue becomes central to Xiaomi's business.
• SkyNomad debuts Xiaomi's new Kunlun platform, an extended-range EV architecture built around a flat cabin floor, relocated suspension and battery components, and a 1.5-litre range-extending engine that only powers a generator, never the wheels.
• The N70 Max claims up to 505 km of pure-electric CLTC range from a 76 kWh battery, while the N90 Max reaches 464 km electric and 1,705 km combined with its range extender and 60-litre fuel tank.
• The launch comes after Xiaomi's first-half 2026 EV sales reached only about a third of its annual target, with a broader European launch planned for 2027 amid softening demand in China's auto market.
• Pricing below CN¥300,000 with comparable or superior interior space directly pressures Li Auto's L9 and Aito's M9, the two brands that together dominated China's top-selling EREV SUVs last year.
