Northwood Space raises $375M at $2B valuation to wire satellites to Earth
November 2, 2026
Raised
$375M
The number of orbiting satellites has quintupled since 2020, turning ground infrastructure into the industry's next bottleneck.
- Northwood Space closed a $375 million Series C co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and DFJ Growth, valuing the company at $2 billion and pushing total funding past $500 million.
- Northwood, led by co-founder and CEO Bridgit Mendler, builds a shared, multi-orbit ground-station network that links satellites to Earth for commercial, U.S. government and allied missions.
- The raise comes less than nine months after a $100 million Series B, during which Northwood deployed six multi-orbit sites on two continents and opened a 185,000-square-foot Torrance factory.
- Northwood's modular Portal antennas can be arrayed to match a 20-foot dish's performance using just ten units, and ship in standard freight containers for same-day activation.
- The company already holds a roughly $49.8 million Space Force contract to support the military's worldwide Satellite Control Network, delivering GEO ground links.
- Northwood plans to grow from 140 employees to over 540 across Washington, D.C. and Torrance as it races to build out a network large enough to rival today's biggest ground-station operators.
- Operational satellites have jumped from roughly 3,500 in 2020 to more than 17,000 today, and ground infrastructure, not launch capacity, is increasingly the limiting factor for space missions.
