Paper raises $34M Series A led by Accel, Iconiq for agentic design platform

Its canvas renders in HTML and CSS, so coding agents like Claude Code and Codex can edit designs directly instead of engineers translating mockups by hand.

• Paper closed a $34 million Series A co-led by Accel and Iconiq, bringing its total funding to about $38.5 million alongside a $4.2 million seed Accel led in February 2025.
• The startup builds a design canvas that renders in HTML and CSS rather than a proprietary format, letting AI coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Copilot read and edit the same files designers use.
• Paper runs an MCP server so connected agents can create artboards, write HTML, edit styles and export assets directly inside the design file, collapsing the design-to-code handoff.
• Paper says its annualized recurring revenue grew 25x since Paper Desktop launched in early 2026, with customers including Ramp, Lovable, Vercel, PostHog, Quartr and Y Combinator.
• Founder Stephen Haney previously co-founded Modulz, creator of the Radix UI component library, which WorkOS acquired in 2022 before he led product engineering there.
• As coding agents increasingly generate production interfaces, design tools built around static canvases risk becoming a bottleneck, and Paper is betting it can remove that friction by making the canvas machine-editable.
