Cursor launches $7 India tier ahead of SpaceX's pending $60B buyout

The tier strips out frontier OpenAI and Anthropic models, betting price-sensitive developers won't miss access they never had.

• Cursor introduced "Cursor Start," a ₹649-a-month (about $7) subscription available only in India, priced roughly two-thirds below its standard $20 Pro plan.
• Cursor's AI-assisted code editor now counts India as its third-largest market worldwide and home to its highest concentration of power users, with the local user base more than tripling over the past year.
• Cursor Start includes the Composer 2.5 and Grok 4.5 models, cloud agents and the iOS app, but withholds frontier OpenAI and Anthropic models along with Bugbot and Auto Mode, which remain Pro-only.

• Cursor is building out on-the-ground India operations to match the pricing push: its first local salesperson, an incoming Delhi hire, a government affairs office, and technical support roles across Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
• The India push lands weeks before SpaceX is expected to close its previously announced $60 billion all-stock acquisition of Cursor's parent company, Anysphere, in the third quarter of 2026.
