Tencent expands Hy3 AI model globally via WorkBuddy, Miora and cloud
August 5, 2026
The 295-billion-parameter model already tops OpenRouter's usage rankings just weeks after launch, pressuring rival Chinese labs abroad.
- Tencent broadened international access to its Hy3 AI model through WorkBuddy, Tencent Design Miora and Tencent Cloud TokenHub, with more Tencent Cloud integrations planned.
- Hy3, formerly branded Tencent Hunyuan, is Tencent's flagship foundation model, officially released on 6 July and now offered free on WorkBuddy worldwide until 31 August 2026.
- Hy3 uses a hybrid fast-and-slow-thinking Mixture-of-Experts architecture with 295 billion total parameters, 21 billion active parameters, and a 256K-token context window.
- API call volume jumped more than 68-fold versus the prior-generation model, and Hy3 ranked first on OpenRouter's global LLM usage leaderboard within a week of launch.
- Tencent is partnering with enterprise AI platform providers in South Korea and Japan to distribute Hy3, alongside developer access via API, third-party platforms like Cline and Cherry Studio, and open-source communities Hugging Face and ModelScope.
- Hy3 is the first major update to Tencent's AI strategy since former OpenAI researcher Yao Shunyu joined to lead its foundational AI development.
- The rollout signals Tencent is shifting from domestic AI experimentation to a direct international push against leading US and Chinese model providers.
