Beacon acquires AI reliability startup Haize Labs

Frontier AI safety tools now serve a roll-up of 45 Main Street software firms, leaving big AI-lab clients in limbo.

• Beacon Software, a Toronto AI holding company, acquired Haize Labs on September 17, 2026, with deal terms undisclosed.
• Haize Labs, founded in 2024 by CEO Leonard Tang, built red-teaming, guardrail, evaluation and observability tools that stress-test AI systems before and after deployment for frontier labs and large enterprises.
• Tang becomes Beacon's VP of AI Research and co-founder Steve Li joins him, with the whole team forming Beacon's new Applied AI Research Group.
• Beacon owns 45 software companies serving over 22,000 businesses across recreation, utilities, education, government and manufacturing; Haize had previously raised a $12.5M seed led by General Catalyst.
• The deal follows a wave of AI-safety consolidation: Harvey bought Guardrails AI alongside a $550M round, and OpenAI acquired the open-source red-teaming tool Promptfoo in March.
• Companies that built release gates around Haize's evaluation suite now depend on a roadmap set by a software holding company, with existing contracts left unaddressed in the announcement.
• The acquisition suggests standalone AI-safety startups increasingly get absorbed into platforms rather than surviving as independent vendors, as buyers want reliability built in rather than bolted on.
