Meta unveils Muse AI agent for glasses and new Meta VR Glasses
September 23, 2026
The launch lands a week before OpenAI's own developer event, as Zuckerberg races to control the hardware people use to reach AI agents.
- At its Connect 2026 keynote, Meta unveiled a new AI glasses lineup across Ray-Ban, Oakley and Meta Glasses, debuted Meta VR Glasses, and confirmed its Muse AI agent is coming to the glasses.
- Muse is Meta's personal AI agent, launched just weeks earlier and powered by the Muse Spark model, that handles tasks like email, calendars and shopping across phone, web and desktop.
- On glasses, Muse will be activated hands-free by voice and can act on what the wearer is looking at, letting users ask about a product on a shelf or a flier on a wall without describing it.
- Zuckerberg also revealed Muse Charm, a keychain-sized pendant for quick access to the AI agent, though he did not disclose pricing or a release date.
- Meta says it will offer more than 100 styles of AI glasses across its three brands by the end of 2026, including its first audio-only glasses.
- Meta VR Glasses, a lighter-weight spatial computing device pitched as an IMAX-grade cinema experience, ships to consumers in spring 2027, with developer SDKs available now.
- Meta shares rose 4.5% the day after Connect and are up more than 25% since Muse's debut, with Mizuho analysts citing the AI-and-hardware bundle as a driver of multiple expansion.
- Fusing Muse into glasses and a standalone pendant is Meta's bid to own the hardware layer for AI agents and cut its dependence on Apple's iPhone for distribution, ahead of rivals like OpenAI.
