Isar Aerospace raises €270M Series D to scale European rocket launches

Defense contracts now drive most of its launch demand, a sign governments are racing to cut reliance on foreign rockets.
- Isar Aerospace raised €270 million in a Series D round to scale production of its Spectrum launch vehicle and expand launch infrastructure for Europe, NATO and allied nations.
- The Munich-based startup, founded in 2018, builds the Spectrum orbital rocket and runs a highly automated factory in Parsdorf near Munich designed to churn out up to 40 vehicles a year.
- The round follows Spectrum's first test flight from Norway's Andøya Spaceport, which fell short of orbit but was called a success, and a new $150M, 10-year lease for a second launch pad at Canada's Spaceport Nova Scotia.
- Defense-related business now makes up about 60% of Isar's demand, up from near zero a year ago, while Europe logged fewer than 10 orbital launches in 2025 versus over 190 in the US.
- Europe's scramble to build its own launch capacity shows how geopolitical tension is turning access to orbit from a commercial service into a defense priority.
- Isar is preparing a qualification flight for Spectrum and scouting additional launch sites beyond Norway and Canada to offer an integrated, multi-site launch network to sovereign customers.
