Lattice completes $1.65B acquisition of firmware maker AMI
September 27, 2026
Deal Value
$1.6B
Pairing programmable chips with platform firmware lets Lattice secure servers from silicon to boot code, not just one layer.
- Lattice finalized its $1.65 billion acquisition of AMI, paying about $1 billion in cash and $650 million in roughly 5.2 million Lattice shares, funded in part by a $925 million delayed-draw term loan.
- AMI makes firmware such as BIOS, UEFI and BMC software that initializes, monitors, manages and secures computing hardware; it now operates as a Lattice business unit led by Sanjoy Maity, reporting to CEO Ford Tamer.
- The deal joins Lattice's low-power FPGAs, which handle hardware-level control and security, with AMI's platform-level firmware that manages systems during startup and operation.
- AMI is expected to contribute more than $200 million in 2026 revenue, and Lattice says the acquisition doubles its total addressable market.
- AMI will keep its silicon-neutral approach, meaning its firmware continues to support chip platforms beyond Lattice's own, preserving existing customer relationships across the industry.
- As AI data centers pack in more servers, processors and storage, combining hardware root-of-trust chips with firmware management addresses security and coordination across the whole stack instead of treating them as separate problems.
