RobCo reaches $1B valuation as CEO relocates to the US
October 5, 2026
Valuation
$1B
Industrial robotics scaling increasingly depends on winning American factories, not European engineering pedigree.
- Munich-based RobCo reached a $1 billion valuation on October 5 through an employee share sale backed by investors including Sequoia and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with CEO Roman Hoelzl relocating to the US to run its fastest-growing market.
- Founded in 2020, RobCo builds industrial robotic arms and Alfie, a two-armed, AI-powered robot designed for unstructured factory tasks that traditional automation can't handle.
- The transaction totaled $40 million, mostly secondary shares sold by current and former employees, following a $100 million primary round in January that brought RobCo's total funding to nearly $200 million.
- About 70% of RobCo's business is still in Europe, but Hoelzl says the US market is larger and growing faster, prompting new assembly operations in Austin, Texas.
- RobCo joins a small cluster of European robotics unicorns, including NEURA Robotics and Agile Robots in Germany and Humanoid in the UK, racing to commercialize AI-driven industrial robots.
- RobCo plans to commercially launch Alfie in March 2027 at its first annual summit, RobCoN, in Munich, with several customers already running a prototype on their factory floors.
- The deal shows how even German-rooted robotics firms are tying their growth narratives, leadership, and operations to US industrial demand rather than home-market roots.
