Genentech signs up to $1.5B deal with AI biotech Earendil for cancer drugs

It's the biotech's third major pharma alliance in under a year, following two deals with Sanofi worth billions.

• Genentech, part of the Roche Group, signed a research collaboration with Earendil Labs to discover and develop multiple bispecific antibodies for cancer, paying $55M upfront with total potential value exceeding $1.5B in milestones plus royalties.
• Earendil Labs is an AI-powered biotech that pairs predictive protein modeling and generative protein design with rapid lab validation to engineer next-generation biologics.
• Earendil will lead antibody discovery and research through early clinical development on pre-agreed target combinations; Genentech then takes over global clinical trials, commercialization, and pays tiered royalties on sales.
• Earendil has closed a string of nine-figure deals in 18 months: $885M with WuXi XDC for ADC technology, a $787M financing round, and Sanofi pacts collectively worth up to $4B in milestones.
• The Genentech pact landed the same day Roche struck a roughly $2B cardiometabolic deal with Atavistik Bio, its fifth biotech agreement in under a month.
