DoorDash to buy Grubhub Campus Dining from Wonder for $300M
September 15, 2026
Deal Value
$300M
The deal gives the delivery giant a foothold in closed-loop campus ordering it plans to extend to stadiums and hotels.
- DoorDash agreed to acquire Wonder's Grubhub Campus Dining business (formerly Tapingo) for $300 million and separately put $125 million into Wonder's $650 million Series D round, the companies announced Sept. 15, 2026.
- Grubhub Campus Dining, formerly Tapingo, lets college students order from campus dining halls and restaurants via app or kiosk and pay with campus dining dollars, and it's live at more than 450 colleges and universities.
- The acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2027 pending regulatory review, after which DoorDash plans to extend the platform's technology beyond campuses to stadiums, hotels and similar venues.
- Wonder was valued at more than $9 billion ahead of its Series D and has raised over $3 billion since 2021, funding acquisitions of Grubhub, Blue Apron and several restaurant brands.
- The tie-up comes even as Grubhub, Wonder's own subsidiary, recently struck a grocery delivery partnership with Instacart specifically to compete with DoorDash.
- DoorDash is paying more than double what it invested in Wonder just to acquire the campus unit, signaling it sees closed-loop institutional ordering as a template for locking in repeat customers beyond typical delivery competition.
