Wandercraft launches Eve, first FDA-cleared self-balancing exoskeleton

Unlike earlier cleared devices, Eve works for spinal-cord injuries at any level, widening who can regain hands-free mobility at home.

• Wandercraft began the U.S. commercial launch of Eve, an FDA-cleared self-balancing exoskeleton that lets wheelchair users with spinal cord injuries stand and move hands-free at home.
• Wandercraft built Eve as a consumer adaptation of its Atalante X clinical exoskeleton, which is already deployed in more than 150 hospitals worldwide.
• Eligibility extends to adults with spinal cord injuries at any level who can operate the controller, removing the neurological-level restrictions that limited earlier cleared exoskeletons.
• A peer-reviewed study in the Journal of Visualized Experiments found all 16 participants who completed training met performance goals on the Timed Up and Go and 6-Minute Walk tests, with no serious adverse events.
• Getting Eve requires a clinical trial, physician's order, custom fitting, and a personalized training program before delivery, with Wandercraft anticipating Medicare and private-insurance reimbursement within 60 to 90 days.
• By covering the full spectrum of spinal cord injury levels rather than a narrow subset, Eve could meaningfully expand the addressable population for personal exoskeletons beyond earlier FDA-cleared devices.
