Rainmaker raises $100M Series B to scale validated cloud seeding

The startup says it's the first private firm to physically prove its rain-making actually adds measurable water to the ground.

• Rainmaker Technology Corporation raised a $100 million Series B led by NOA VC, with Upfront Ventures, DCVC, Lowercarbon Capital and Dream Ventures also participating.
• The El Segundo, California company flies weather-resistant drones into winter storm clouds and releases silver iodide, seeding ice crystals that grow heavy enough to fall as rain or snow.
• Rainmaker pairs seeding flights with its own radar and validation systems to measure how much extra precipitation each operation actually produced, a step historically missing from cloud seeding.
• Earlier in 2026, Rainmaker recorded 82 unambiguous seeding signatures over four months, tied to more than 145 million verified gallons of freshwater, and produced 19 million gallons in about three hours near Homer, Alaska in August.
• The funding will bankroll rapid hiring of atmospheric scientists and radar/materials specialists, plus co-funded research with national labs and universities to refine targeting and dosing.
• Management projects the cost per acre-foot of water will fall sharply as parallel drone operations scale, aiming to undercut desalination and compensated land fallowing by the November 2026-April 2027 season.
• Rainmaker currently operates in Utah, Idaho, Oregon, California and Colorado and plans to expand across the American West and into international markets.
