Upwind acquires AI-security startup Aegis in $25M-$50M stock deal
September 23, 2026
The nine-month-old venture never landed a paying customer, yet its AI-agent attack research made it worth folding in fast.
- Israeli cloud security unicorn Upwind has acquired Aegis, an Israeli AI-security startup, in an all-equity deal valued between $25 million and $50 million, according to Axios.
- Aegis was founded by Omri Limor and Saar Ankonina, Unit 8200 veterans who later worked at cybersecurity startups Centra and Sweet Security before building tech to detect AI-agent-driven attacks.
- Aegis emerged from stealth with the acquisition announcement and, according to reports, had no paying customers or revenue at the time of the deal.
- The founders will lead a new Upwind AI Security Labs, starting with 12 researchers and expanding to about 25 within three months and roughly 35 eventually.
- The deal lands just weeks after Upwind raised $300 million at a roughly $3.8 billion valuation, more than double the $1.5 billion mark it hit in a January raise.
- Buying a team before it has shipped a product or earned revenue shows how urgently cybersecurity vendors are racing to build defenses for the AI-agent attack surface.
