$108M
Personal work agents can now message each other directly, letting teams clear bottlenecks that used to require a human in the loop.
- Town, a San Francisco startup building AI work assistants, raised a $108 million Series B co-led by Forerunner Ventures and Menlo Ventures, valuing the company at $1 billion.
- Each employee gets a personal AI assistant called a 'Townie' that connects to their email, calendar, docs and core work systems, learning their projects and voice.
- The Series B funds a shift from individual to team assistants: Townies can now ask each other questions, hand off work, and request permission before acting on a teammate's behalf.
- Townies can also interact with people outside the company, like customers and candidates, over email and text, and teams can push shared workflow updates across everyone's assistant at once.
- Town says customers own the context their Townies build and can take it elsewhere; the company doesn't train models on connected data by default and routes tasks across multiple AI labs' models instead of locking into one.
- Menlo Ventures, a co-lead investor, says it put its entire firm on Town in June and says knowledge workers spend over 13 hours a week on email, chat and text alone.
- The round reflects a shift in enterprise AI from single-user productivity tools toward networks of agents that negotiate and hand off work with each other, not just with their human owner.
