Allstate's Arity acquires traffic-data pioneer Inrix after 22 years
October 16, 2026
The deal hands the acquirer a far bigger trove of driving and traffic data, intensifying scrutiny of how that information gets used and sold.
- Arity, Allstate's mobility-data subsidiary, agreed on Oct. 16, 2026 to acquire substantially all of Inrix's assets, with the deal expected to close later this year and financial terms undisclosed.
- Inrix, founded in Bellevue, Washington in 2004 as a Microsoft spinout, has spent two decades turning real-time traffic and roadway data into analytics for governments and businesses.
- Arity, founded in Chicago in 2016, mines more than three trillion miles of driving-behavior data to build risk and predictive-analytics products for insurers and public-sector clients.
- Inrix raised more than $288 million over its lifetime and twice lined up bankers for an IPO, in 2013 and 2022, before opting for an acquisition exit instead.
- Arity's data practices have drawn legal scrutiny: Texas sued Allstate and Arity in January 2025, alleging they collected and sold consumers' driving and location data without adequate consent.
- Folding Inrix's roadway intelligence into Arity's driving-behavior data concentrates two major strands of transportation data in one company, raising the stakes for insurance pricing and consumer privacy alike.
