Parallel Systems raises $100M Series C for autonomous freight trains
October 7, 2026
Raised
$100M
Driverless battery railcars ditch couplers entirely, letting operators compete with short-haul trucking on routes under 500 miles.
- Parallel Systems closed a $100 million Series C led by Advance Venture Partners, with Hillspire, Agility Global and Cobalt Capital joining as new backers.
- Founded in 2020 by former SpaceX engineer Matt Soule, the Los Angeles company builds battery-electric railcars that each carry one container and run on existing track without a locomotive.
- Total funding now tops $150 million, including a $38 million Series B that closed in 2025.
- The capital scales production of the third-generation Panther vehicle, which skips mechanical couplers and self-assembles into flexible convoys of 10 to 30 units.
- Panther cars travel up to 500 miles on one charge, which takes as little as one hour, targeting routes rail has ceded to trucking.
- Since April 2025, Parallel has run FRA-supervised demonstration operations with railroad Genesee & Wyoming over a 160-mile corridor linking the Port of Savannah to East Coast logistics hubs.
- A September 28 partnership with logistics firm Agility will guide Parallel's expansion into Gulf Cooperation Council rail corridors and, eventually, Europe.
- Breaking freight rail free of giant fixed-length trains could open thousands of shorter, lower-volume routes that legacy railroads have ceded to trucking.
