Perplexity launches Teammates, always-on AI agents for work
November 5, 2026
Priced at $200 a month, it's the costliest entry in a race already crowded with OpenAI's Dots and Anthropic's Claude Duet.
- Perplexity launched Teammates on November 5, 2026, always-on AI agents that take ongoing jobs rather than single prompts, available to its $200/month Max subscribers on the web.
- Perplexity, the AI search startup behind the Comet browser and the Computer agent platform, built Teammates to extend from one-off answers into agents that own recurring work like ad campaigns, bug triage or legal research.
- Each Teammate gets a standing brief, a persistent thread, and its own desktop and browser, pulling in existing Perplexity Projects, Memory, Skills and connectors so it starts with context already in place.
- Teammates can collaborate with each other and ping human colleagues in Slack; usage is free during a promotional period before drawing on the credits already bundled into the Max plan.
- The launch follows OpenAI's Dots, unveiled at DevDay in late September and powered by GPT-6 Astra with access to over 4,000 apps, as well as Anthropic's Claude Duet.
- The move signals AI products shifting from answering prompts to owning end-to-end business functions, forcing enterprises to weigh productivity gains against the cost and oversight of letting agents act autonomously.
