Google's $32B Wiz deal clears US DOJ antitrust review

Overseas regulators are now the last hurdle before Alphabet closes its biggest-ever deal, a bet that cloud security is core infrastructure.

• Alphabet's proposed $32 billion acquisition of cloud security startup Wiz has cleared US Department of Justice antitrust review, though the deal still needs sign-off in other jurisdictions before an expected 2026 close.
• Wiz, based in New York, builds a cloud security platform that scans infrastructure on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud and Kubernetes for risk combinations attackers could exploit, and generates roughly $700 million in annual revenue.
• Under the deal Wiz will join Google Cloud but continue operating as an independent platform, keeping its products available on rival clouds including AWS, Azure and Oracle Cloud rather than being locked to Google alone.
• Google first tried to buy Wiz for $23 billion in 2024, but that negotiation collapsed after some directors and investors flagged US antitrust risk; the price jumped to $32 billion when talks resumed.
• Wiz has already begun operating under Google, launching an AI-driven scanning program called Scan for Good with Google DeepMind's Gemini models that uncovered exploitable security gaps at public and private hospitals.
• The DOJ's Antitrust Division adopted a new expedited review framework in July 2026 letting merging parties submit targeted evidence, cutting typical six-to-nine-month second-request reviews to two to three months.
• Clearing US review on what would be Alphabet's largest-ever acquisition signals regulators are willing to move fast on cloud infrastructure deals even as AI-driven threats push cybersecurity consolidation and valuations higher.
