Airtel Money debuts on LSE at $7B valuation, London's biggest IPO since 2021

October 9, 2026

Valuation

$7B

No new capital changes hands here: the sale lets early backers like Qatar's sovereign fund and TPG cash out, not fund expansion.

  • Airtel Mobile Commerce N.V. (Airtel Money) began conditional trading on the London Stock Exchange's Main Market on October 9, 2026 under ticker AMC, priced at £1.96 a share for a roughly $7 billion (£5.3bn) valuation — the biggest LSE listing in five years.
  • Launched in 2011 as Airtel Africa's mobile money arm, Airtel Money serves about 53 million monthly active users across 13 African countries via more than 2.3 million local agents, offering transfers, payments, credit, savings and insurance.
  • The offer was a pure secondary sale: existing holders including the Qatar Investment Authority and TPG sold 270 million shares for about £529 million ($700M), with no new shares issued and no fresh capital going to the company itself.
  • Shares rose as much as 2.1% at the open before slipping roughly 1% below the £1.96 offer price to around £1.93-£1.94, even though the IPO was oversubscribed several times over.
  • Parent Airtel Africa, majority-owned by India's Bharti Enterprises, held nearly 78% of Airtel Money before the float and says it intends to stay on as a long-term majority shareholder.
  • Airtel Africa's own London-listed shares fell 6% the same day amid a broader telecom sell-off triggered by SpaceX's acquisition of US spectrum, muting the market mood around the debut.
  • The listing is considered the first major African fintech to go public on a global exchange, giving London a flagship win for financial-inclusion-themed capital markets even as the stock itself opened flat.
