Dynatrace completes $915M acquisition of AI observability startup Arize
October 1, 2026
Deal Value
$915M
Enterprises are starting to pay separately to monitor whether AI agents did the right thing, not just whether servers stayed up.
- Dynatrace closed its acquisition of Arize on October 1, 2026, months after signing a definitive agreement in August, paying $915 million — about $815 million in cash and the rest in replacement equity awards for Arize staff.
- Arize, founded in 2020, built tools for tracing, evaluating and debugging AI models and agents, including its open-source Phoenix platform and enterprise product AX.
- Arize co-founders Jason Lopatecki and Aparna Dhinakaran joined Dynatrace, with Lopatecki continuing to lead the Arize team and reporting to CEO Rick McConnell.
- Dynatrace said Arize should add roughly 200 basis points to annual recurring revenue growth in fiscal 2027, while cutting non-GAAP operating margin by about 175 basis points that year before recovering in fiscal 2028.
- UBS raised its Dynatrace price target to $74 from $65 after interviewing Fortune 500 customers of Arize, who said they expect an aggressive ramp in AI monitoring spend over the next several years.
- Three of the four enterprise customers UBS surveyed already run both Datadog and Dynatrace, showing observability budgets splitting between general infrastructure tools and AI-specific monitoring.
- The deal signals observability vendors now see tracking an AI agent's decisions as a distinct, billable discipline from simply monitoring whether servers and apps stay up.
