Basecamp Research raises $140M Series C, hits $800M valuation
September 23, 2026
Raised
$140M
Its AI designs DNA sequences that reprogram cells directly inside patients, replacing costly external cell manufacturing.
- Basecamp Research closed an oversubscribed $140M Series C led by venture firm S32, valuing the company at $800M and lifting its total funding to $225M.
- The London-based startup, founded in 2019 by Glen Gowers and Oliver Vince, builds EDEN, a biological foundation model for designing therapeutic DNA sequences.
- EDEN is trained on Basecamp's Trillion Gene Atlas, a proprietary genomic dataset built through data-sharing partnerships in more than 30 countries across all seven continents.
- The capital will fund in vivo cell therapies that reprogram a patient's own cells inside the body for cancer and autoimmune disease, aiming to avoid manufacturing costs that can reach hundreds of thousands of dollars per patient.
- Basecamp previously raised a $60M Series B in October 2024 led by Singular, meaning this Series C is more than double that round in under two years.
- Basecamp named former Biogen business development chief Richard Pearce as chief business officer and added S32 general partner and former Verily CEO Andy Conrad to its board.
- AI-designed in vivo cell therapies could sidestep the complex, expensive manufacturing bottleneck that has long constrained CAR-T-style treatments, a challenge the biotech industry has struggled to crack.
