Salesforce agrees to buy defense logistics startup Rune Technologies
October 29, 2026
It pushes enterprise software onto battlefields where networks routinely fail, a niche most of its rivals avoid.
- Salesforce signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rune Technologies, a defense logistics and sustainment software maker, to expand its Missionforce government unit; financial terms were not disclosed.
- Rune builds AI-powered software already used by the US Army and Marine Corps to forecast supply needs and route resources, even in denied, degraded or no-connectivity (DDIL) combat environments.
- The deal will fold into Salesforce's Missionforce portfolio alongside Missionforce Operations and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce's fiscal year 2027.
- One year after Missionforce launched, Salesforce's defense business is growing 80% year-over-year with customers across all six US military branches, including a 10-year Army contract with a $5.6 billion ceiling.
- Rune is Salesforce's fourth AI-related acquisition in recent months, following an $8 billion Informatica deal, a $3.6 billion buy of AI agent platform Fin, and a roughly $5.66 billion deal for Braze.
- Salesforce calls Rune its most significant national security acquisition yet, a bet that defense logistics software can offset slowing growth in traditional enterprise software as AI reshapes demand.
